Well-played, September

the dappled light on the hill crafts bouquets of yellow blossoms where the grass has already faded with the coming fall

this shrinking arc of day makes the jeweled promise of the morning last longer, sparkling through the leaves, instead of trumpeting overhead–insisting, demanding, expecting

the sun’s retreat also lends heat to the outdoor shower, warming the stones under foot, once cool in the deep shade of the canopy

a tiny, non-threatening, almost adorable, miniature-maple-leaf greets me on the path; the color red softened by the fading heart at its center

well played, September

today is the anniversary of my mother’s sobriety, and the beginning of our last week with her, 15 years ago

i’ve just learned of wayne dyer’s passing, a teacher whose work my mother introduced me to at her diningroom table where she imparted a (shortened) lifetime of hard-earned wisdom with the soft light and gentle hue of her soul

  1. I can’t get over all your many, many blogs! It is so gratifying to me, so satisfying…to witness all these many creative tentacles spreading out….taking shape…sometimes I am so aggravated by my undisciplined writing nature. A dozen journals (paper ones) that I switch between, out of order, out of date…whatever one is nearest at any given time…same with my poems, songs, novels…the disorder and chaos of it. But over the summer I finally accepted – I am driven to write, to create, to feel and think through words – the fact that I am not disciplined to finish is not necessarily a count against me. It is not my goal. My goal is to be in the moment of creating..so I continue, looking inward, spiraling out. Thank you for confirmation of this approach. You have so much here – it’s amazing.

    1. Well isn’t that a beautiful mirror, particularly on this day, this week, when my creativity is consumed by giving voice to women. Thank you again dear kindred soul. “Tentacles.” Yes. Being who we are. Yes. Being in the contradictions. (I welcome your company!)
