Betwixt and between

winter and spring

snow and soil

Heavy waters travel the stream bed

birthing winter’s load

Serpentine path through pond ice

widening each day

Frosty breezes cross the mud, called road

fresh as laundry on the line

Sunlit yard all toasted coconut

dolloped with mallow still

What magics keeps snow under such a sky?

Vernal pools

awaiting

Palette of bird calls

expanding

Misty cool dawn

of departure

and arrival

Promising change

Kelly Salasin, Spring 09

About these ads

Sometimes the first sign of spring is the ring of grass around the septic tank, leading to grown women twisting nursery rhymes like this~

Ring around the septic tank

Buckets full of snow

Raining,

Raining,

It all melts away.

K. Salasin

“Hard to imagine snow so early for some~

this one is of the ‘powdered sugar‘ variety

coating just the tops of everything

cream upon the rosy ground foliage of fall

both tragic and beautiful

and then it all

begins to melt

like a mirage

in the sun.”

K. Salasin
